Job summary

The State of Indiana, INDOT, is seeking a Highway Technician for the Columbia City unit. This entry-level role involves cleaning roads, pothole filling, drainage upkeep, and winter operations. Overtime is required for emergencies, including winter weather.

Ideal candidates will have a CDL or be able to obtain one within 90 days, pass a drug test, and perform physical tasks. CDL training is provided onsite for some positions, with additional pay for CDL endorsements.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Able to pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Able to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities for long periods.
• Able to work outdoors in inclement weather and during emergencies.
• Experience operating basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment is a plus.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain highways and rights-of-way, perform snow and ice removal.
• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment as required.
• Inspect and load supplies, perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Assist with emergency response, traffic control, and signage.
• Follow safety policies and procedures consistently.
