Job summary

The State of Indiana, through INDOT Lizton Unit, is hiring a Highway Technician. You will perform general maintenance on Indiana highways, assist with winter operations, and support emergency road closures as needed.

This entry-level role requires a CDL or obtaining one within 90 days, and working mandatory overtime for emergencies. The position offers comprehensive benefits, CDL training on-site, and opportunities for advancement within INDOT.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Ability to pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Comply with safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain and clean highways.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations and snow/ice removal.
• Support emergency response activities such as traffic control and barricades.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
