The Commonwealth of Kentucky, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, is seeking a Highway Technician Assistant I in Taylorsville, KY. The role supports road construction and maintenance using basic equipment and flagging duties, with a pay rate of $17.95 per hour.

By joining our Project Delivery and Preservation Branch II as a Highway Technician Assistant I in SpencerCounty, you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment used in road constructionand maintenance such as, single axle truck (dump, flatbed, pickup), snow plow, and salt spreaders.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Use construction equipment to maintain roads.
• Use equipment to control vegetation along roads.
• Use equipment to perform snow removal on highways.
• Use equipment to spread salt on the highways to prevent icing.
• Flag for traffic control

Ideal candidate will have experience in:

• Drivers License.
• Eligibility to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
• Ability to perform general labor work.
• Willingness to work outdoors.

Additional position information:Incumbents in this job title must possess the ability to work, sit, stoop and bend. Must be able to lift andcarry 50 pounds. Must be able to respond to emergencies.

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
