Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet is seeking a Highway Technician Assistant I in Campton, KY. The role involves operating basic automotive and power equipment under District 10, Wolfe County, supporting highway maintenance tasks and safety procedures.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma; 18+ with a valid driver's license. Within 12 months, a Class B CDL must be obtained; within one year, First Aid and Snow & Ice Training and Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10

By joining our Department of Highways, District 10, Wolfe County Maintenance Unit as a Highway TechnicianAssistant I, you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment including, but notlimited to, bush hogs, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle dumptrucks (flatbed, dump, pickup), snowplows, salt spreaders, broom sweepers and weed trimmers.

Holders of the Highway Technician Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:

• Operate small single axle dump trucks
• Flag traffic for highway crews
• Assist in brush cutting and controlling operations around structures and highways
• Assist with beginning level engineering related tasks
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment
• Operate dump truck with snowplow and salt spreader

Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
