By joining our Department of Highways, District 10, Wolfe County Maintenance Unit as a Highway TechnicianAssistant I, you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment including, but notlimited to, bush hogs, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle dumptrucks (flatbed, dump, pickup), snowplows, salt spreaders, broom sweepers and weed trimmers.

Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
