Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Instrument operator for a preconstruction survey crew. The role involves establishing line and grade for highways and providing field data to support design and plan development.

Responsibilities include operating total stations, data collectors, GPS, and level instruments; recording elevations, profiles, and cross sections; and assisting with calibration and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1.5 years related experience.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of field surveying methods and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Operate survey instruments to establish elevations, alignments, and profiles.
• Maintain detailed field notes and reduce them for accuracy.
• Assist with and oversee equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Work under a SC registered land surveyor and locate property lines.
