Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking an Instrument operator in the preconstruction survey crew. You will establish line and grade for proposed highways and provide field information to design detailed plans for construction.

Regularly operate survey instruments such as total stations and GPS, collect topography, and assist with alignment and elevations. Join a safety‑conscious team with opportunities to grow in field surveying and mapping tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1.5 years of related experience preferred.
• Valid motor vehicle operator's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operate survey equipment to establish elevations, lines and grades.
• Maintain and record field notes including profiles and cross sections.
• Assist with setting ground panels for photogrammetric mapping and ensure accuracy of elevations.
• Assist with courthouse and field research to locate property lines; obtain utility data.
• Maintain equipment and uphold job safety standards, including placement of signs.
• Record time and leave using ESS in SCEIS as required.
