Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a preconstruction survey crew member to work as a rodman, establishing line and grade for highway projects and providing field information for detailed plans. You will operate level rods, collect topography data, and assist with survey equipment under the guidance of a licensed surveyor.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least one year of related experience, plus a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Perform duties on preconstruction survey crew as rodman; establish line and grade for proposed highway.
Operate level rod to determine elevations and collect topography; use tools to ensure line of sight.
Assist with survey equipment and basic operations to establish elevations of benchmarks and ground controls.
Maintain field notes, reduce level notes to check elevation precision.
Assist with equipment maintenance and safety measures in the field.
Under supervision of a SC registered land surveyor, locate property lines and gather utility data.
