Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation seeks a seasoned Highway Safety Office Manager (Grants Specialist VI) to supervise a team and administer federal funds from NHTSA for statewide safety programs. You will align CDOT safety goals with federal standards, lead grant administration, and partner with regional and national agencies.

The role emphasizes strategic planning, budget development, and complex stakeholder collaboration in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 9 years of full-time professional experience in public health, criminal justice, public administration, finance/accounting, or related fields with 5+ years in grants management or project/program planning.
  • Experience overseeing federal/state grant funds and ensuring compliance with fiscal rules.
  • Strong leadership, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees development, implementation, and evaluation of planning documents (AGA, 3HSP) per NHTSA requirements.
  • Sets strategies to reduce traffic fatalities through federal/state grant-funded education and enforcement initiatives.
  • Manages flow of grant funding to 80+ grantees and ensures compliance with fiscal rules.
  • Develops budgets exceeding $12 million and allocates to Occupant Protection, Impaired Driving, PR campaigns, and Traffic Records programs.
  • Directly leads eight staff and multiple contractors within the Highway Safety Office.
