Job summary

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission seeks a Highway Maintenance Worker in McDonald, PA to perform skilled road maintenance and operate heavy equipment. The role includes responding to incidents, traffic control, and customer assistance on a 24/7 shift schedule.

You will operate tractors, excavators, rollers, and other equipment, perform routine maintenance, and support fleet and facilities tasks. A valid CDL, DOT medical card, and safety focus are essential for this position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• Must possess a valid Class A CDL OR a valid Class B CDL with an A learner’s permit and pass the CDL road test by end of trial/probation period.
• CDL endorsement (N or X) to operate tank vehicles.
• CDL restrictions prohibiting certain operations (as applicable to locations).
• Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical Card).
• One year experience operating tractor-trailer, construction, maintenance or heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of heavy and light construction equipment (tractors, excavators, rollers, graders, backhoes, loaders, etc.).
• Operates and maintains emergency response vehicles and equipment.
• Responds to accidents/incidents and assists with traffic control.
• Performs manual labor and routine maintenance tasks.
• Locates and corrects defects in equipment and assists mechanics.
• Operates radio systems and communicates effectively.
• Performs clerical tasks and handles supplies/inventory as assigned.
