Job summary

La Crosse County is seeking a manual laborer for the County Highway Department, based in West Salem. The role involves a variety of road maintenance tasks and operating equipment, with emphasis on safety and adherence to county procedures.

The job requires high school completion or GED, and valid driver’s license with CDL-Class A and air brake endorsements within six months; a pre-employment drug screen is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of road grading/snow plowing, road construction, light/heavy equipment operation and manual labor preferred.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Repair highway surfaces and fences using hand tools; place gravel on roadways and shoulders.
• Assist in bridge repairs.
• Operate highway equipment and trucks; perform routine vehicle maintenance.
• Ensure safety practices and report hazards.
• Maintain courteous, respectful conduct with the public and staff at all times.
