The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking candidates for a vegetation management position that supports the maintenance of state highways. Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Performs vegetation management activities using equipment such as a combination tractor with side-mounted mower.
• Operates medium-duty equipment such as tandem dump truck and skid steer in road and bridge maintenance.
• Assists with installing and repairing catch basins and drainage structures and placing drainage pipes.
• Uses power tools and coordinates placement of traffic control devices to set up work zones per guidelines.
• Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals.
• Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
