Job summary

South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) in Buffalo is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker to keep state highways safe and drivable. You will work in a crew performing roadway maintenance, signage installation, and equipment operation, with night/weekend duties during emergencies.

The ideal candidate has experience with heavy equipment, a valid license, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or heavy construction preferred.
• Must have valid driver license; CDL required within 120 days; Class A with tanker and N endorsement.
• Must be willing to report to work in inclement weather and during emergencies.
• Strong math skills and basic computer operations may be needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform roadway maintenance and roadside activities.
• Install and replace signs, traffic control devices, and pavement markings.
• Maintain and repair guardrail systems and department facilities.
• Operate and maintain equipment; respond to emergencies and incidents.
• Provide on-the-job training and work direction.
• Provide temporary traffic control in work zones and hazardous sites.
• Maintain documentation and promote safety and public awareness.
