Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation's Richland Maintenance unit seeks personnel for skilled road and bridge maintenance. You will operate backhoes and front-end loaders, perform concrete work, and help set up traffic control to protect workers and motorists.

Requirements include a Class A CDL within six months and at least one year of related experience. Overtime and night/weekend coverage may be required in emergencies or hazardous weather.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required; CDL Class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoe and other heavy equipment for road and bridge maintenance.
• Perform tasks such as grading, forming, and pouring concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways.
• Coordinate the placement of traffic control devices to set up a proper work zone.
• Assist in emergency and weather-related operations, including extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
