Job summary

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking Transportation Maintenance Tech I–III to perform routine roadway maintenance, traffic control, sign installation and minor equipment repairs. The role requires the ability to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and to assist public safety efforts during emergencies.

Responsibilities include performing PMI, maintaining records, and supporting projects under supervision.

Qualifications

• No education required.
• 1 year experience for Tech II, 2 years for Tech III; experience in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation or related work.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying, repairing and installing signs and posts; basic welding as needed.
• Provide support to local law enforcement at accident sites and assist motorists.
• Assist with traffic control; manage cones, signs and barricades; flag traffic.
• Move materials and operate light to heavy highway equipment as required.
• Perform PMI, routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; complete required reports.
