Job summary

State of Oregon – Department of Transportation in Oregon's La Grande/Meacham region is seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist (Split Position). The role covers maintenance of roadways, bridges and related structures, with duties across two stations and occasional striping crew work.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, responding to weather emergencies, pothole repair, and routine maintenance. CDL-A with tanker endorsement is preferred; travel and on-call duties may apply.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; OR two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
• Must possess a valid CDL-A with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain) and no air brake restrictions or 5th wheel/ manual transmission restrictions.
• Valid U.S. driver license and acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light equipment to maintain and repair roadways, bridges and structures.
• Assist with weather-related emergencies and snow plow/deicer operations.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and light inlay work.
• Clear debris, mow grass, trim roadside vegetation, and maintain drainage systems.
• Maintain fences, guardrails, and milepost markers; repair culverts and erosion control structures.
• Inspect and service tools and motorized equipment; perform basic maintenance work.
• Perform janitorial, landscaping and light carpentry tasks as needed.
• Be prepared for after-hours, weekend, or holiday emergency calls and adverse conditions.
