Job summary

The Oregon Department of Transportation seeks skilled Highway Maintenance Specialists to join Southwest Portland maintenance crews. You will operate equipment to maintain and repair roadways, bridges and structures, and assist with weather-related emergencies.

The job involves lifting up to 60 pounds, and may require after-hours on-call work for emergencies. Applicants should have basic highway maintenance experience or related landscaping/construction experience, plus a valid CDL-A with tanker

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work
• Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures.
• Assist with weather-related emergencies; operate snowplows and deicer trucks to clear roads.
• Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching; small inlay work.
• Clear debris, mow grass, spray roadside vegetation; maintain drainage and barriers.
• Perform maintenance such as janitorial work, landscaping, painting and light carpentry.
