Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting for Highway Maintenance Worker 2 trainee positions in District II (Carson City, Gardnerville, Spooner). Incumbents perform routine maintenance, snow removal, and winter operations, with opportunities to progress after certification as a fully trained operator.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance to proceed to application.
• One year of experience as Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.

Responsibilities

• Act as designated certified operator for HMW I/II; demonstrate equipment operation and provide training.
• Operate equipment to install pavement markings and control traffic in maintenance zones.
• Apply chip and flush seals and perform cold milling and inlays with hot asphalt; input data into maintenance systems.
• Establish traffic controls to reroute traffic or control flow in maintenance zones and during emergencies.
• Load salt and sand into trucks; apply anti-icing chemicals and plow snow with appropriate equipment.
• Maintain radio contact with base and respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
• Install, repair, and replace roadway signs, bulbs, fixtures and sensors on sign structures.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality control; oversee contractor work.
• Maintain landscaped areas and right-of-way, including tree wells and reseeding.
• Remove debris and hazards from roadways; assist in accident response and documentation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
