Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers, on behalf of the Virginia Department of Transportation, seeks a roadway maintenance worker in Hillsville, VA. You will perform a mix of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor, including emergency roadway operations as an essential employee and other duties as assigned.

You will operate light to heavy highway equipment, enforce safety rules, follow MUTCD guidelines, and help keep roadways clear during snow, storms, and incidents.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Emergency roadway operations to clear snow, ice, and debris and provide traffic control.
• Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles.
• Implement work zone safety practices and follow MUTCD guidelines.
• Perform preventive maintenance and pre-trip inspections.
