Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium, and heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Prepare equipment for snow/ice removal and other emergencies; manage detours, lane closures, and traffic control.
• Equipment Operations: Operate and maintain highway equipment to support maintenance and repair tasks.
• Job Safety: enforce site protection, PPE, and OSHA/VOSHA requirements; follow MUTCD guidelines for detours and work zones.
• Manual Labor: assist crew to complete projects and perform needed maintenance tasks.
• Preventive Maintenance: perform repairs, replacements, and pre-trip inspections on vehicles or equipment.
• Traffic Control Devices: install and manage traffic control devices; track inventory and records.
