Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a roadway maintenance worker in Virginia to operate light, medium, and some heavy highway equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and support emergency operations.

You will work on snow and ice removal, traffic control, and ensure work zones meet MUTCD standards while following safety regulations. This is a full-time position requiring teamwork and reliable communication.

Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain thereafter.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
Safety shoes required.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
Experience in highway maintenance and emergency operations.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain light and medium highway equipment for maintenance tasks.
Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergency operations; provide traffic control.
Operate and maintain equipment used for highway maintenance and repair; perform preventive maintenance and pre-trip inspections.
Apply MUTCD standards for detours, lane closures, and work zones; maintain safe work environment.
Participate as a working crew member to complete projects and maintain records.
