Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Crew Leader to supervise maintenance crews and direct multiple roadway work phases, including drainage structures, signs, and debris removal.

Responsibilities include directing flagging operations, ensuring safety, operating heavy equipment (Backhoe, Excavator, Front End Loader, Motor Grader, etc.), entering daily work into HMMS, assigning tasks, training staff, and assisting the Crew Foreman, with on-call duties during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or approved equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required; CDL is required within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Directs maintenance work phases and supervises crew activities.
• Instructs crew on safety practices, flagging operations, and equipment use.
• Operates heavy equipment as assigned (e.g., Backhoe, Excavator, Loader, Grader).
• Enter daily work into HMMS and assign tasks; train subordinates.
• Assist Crew Foreman and participate in on-call emergencies and weather plans.
