Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Crew Leader to coordinate road construction and maintenance within a county, ensuring work is recorded in the maintenance data system. You will operate heavy equipment, haul materials, and assist the crew foreman to ensure drainage and roadway integrity.

This role requires two years of related experience, a valid driver's license, and a Class A CDL to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate construction, repair, and preservation activities of roads within a county.
• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe and motor grader for drainage, ditches, and roadway work.
• Haul materials using tandem dump trucks (asphalt, dirt, pipe) and operate medium/heavy equipment as needed.
• Assist in emergencies, may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
