Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a versatile equipment operator to safely run medium and heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, belt loaders, large rollers, and skid steers to haul asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipes, trees and debris.

Tasks include assisting in ditch cleaning, pipe installation, loading earth materials, and setting up and flagging traffic according to MUTCD standards to protect workers and the public.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium and heavy equipment including tandem dump trucks, belt loaders, large rollers, and skid steer loaders.
• Assist in ditch cleaning, pipe installation, and loading earth materials for maintenance operations.
• Perform pre-operation inspections and basic maintenance on vehicles/equipment as outlined in specs.
• Set up and flag traffic according to MUTCD standards to protect workers and the public.
• May work extended hours or 12-hour shifts and be on-call during emergencies.
