Job summary

State of Indiana, Indiana Department of Transportation, seeks a Hoosier Helper Safety Service Patrol member in Gary, IN. You will operate an SSP truck to speed incident removal, assist disabled motorists, and restore safe traffic flow on urban interstates.

A valid CDL (A or B) is required or obtained within 90 days; you may be asked to perform basic first aid and minor vehicle maintenance in support of operations. Regular travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Must pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Must be able to move up to 50 pounds and endure inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Patrol and respond to freeway incidents, set up traffic control, and assist motorists.
• Serve as liaison to the Supervisor and report operational deficiencies.
• Observe traffic conditions and report problems or unusual delays to the Supervisor.
