Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an experienced equipment operator to perform a variety of highway maintenance tasks. You will operate slope mowers, dump trucks, and heavy machinery, and assist with drainage and pipe installation on right-of-ways.

The role includes setting up traffic control per SCMUTCD standards, performing routine maintenance, and being available for after-hours emergencies and on-call duties. A CDL is required within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• One year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires valid motor vehicle operator’s license and must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate slope mower with Buzz Bar attachment in limbing and sloping operations on highway right-of-ways.
• Operate tandem dump truck for hauling maintenance and construction materials (concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, limestone, debris).
• Operate combination front-end loader and backhoe to clear drainage ditches and install sideline, cross line pipes, and remove fallen trees, on-call after hours.
