Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation in South Carolina seeks a skilled equipment operator to support highway maintenance and construction projects. You will operate tandem dump trucks with trailers and a range of heavy equipment on public roadways.

You will perform safety inspections, maintain records, and assist during inclement weather or emergencies. A Class A CDL is required within six months of placement, with physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
• The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate tandem dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment.
• Operate and maintain medium- to large-sized equipment used in highway and bridge maintenance.
• Record daily work and materials; assist with maintenance requests and safety forms.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations; long shifts may be required.
