CLA is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our Higher Education Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) Practice in Chicago and other locations. You will lead accounting functions for multiple clients, act as a consultant on best practices, and manage project workflows to meet deadlines.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with major accounting software (QuickBooks, Intacct, Great Plains, Yardi, MRI, Timberline, Sage, Foundations,

Qualifications

• 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience required.
• Higher Education industry experience is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree is required; related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Proficiency with accounting software listed in the job posting.

Responsibilities

• Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
• Act as a consultant and advisor to clients on best practices for accounting and finance engagements.
• Provide project management by handling multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Maintain knowledge of client policies, federal/state directives, and current accounting standards.
