CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) is seeking an Assistant Controller for our Higher Education Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) Practice. This role partners with clients to deliver accurate financial statements, analysis, and governance with a collaborative, client-focused approach.

You will manage multiple client engagements across campuses, apply GAAP, and advance accounting processes. Chicago and other locations offer opportunities to contribute to a growing national practice and career growth.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of accounting/financial experience required.
• Experience in higher education accounting is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree required; or combination of experience and training accepted.

Responsibilities

• Perform Assistant Controller functions for clients' accounting services teams.
• Act as consultant on best practices for accounting and finance engagements.
• Provide project management across multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and provide recommendations.
• Foster opportunities for clients, communities, and people.
• Attend industry events and training to stay current.
• Maintain knowledge of policies, directives, and GAAP standards.

About the role:

CLA is looking to hire an Assistant Controller for our Higher Education Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) Practice Our CAAS service helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs. Opportunities are available in our Chicago, Il, King of Prussia, Pa Austin and Houston, Tx and Minneapolis, Mn locations

As an Assistant Controller, you will:

• Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client's accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
• Act as a consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
• Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Foster and build opportunities for our clients, communities, and people.
• Become an industry professional and attend industry-leading events and training.
• Maintain knowledge of the client's organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.

What you will need:

• 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience required.
• Experience in the Higher Education Industry is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP
• Proficiency in accounting software, e.g. QuickBooks, Intacct, Great Plains, Yardi, MRI, Timberline, Sage, Foundations, Xero, Peoplesoft

The compensation range for this position in Illinois is: $81,000.00 - $144,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Minnesota is: $77,000.00- $139,000.00
