Job summary

Team Fishel is seeking a Substation Electrician/Technician to perform journeyman electrical and mechanical work on high‑voltage substation equipment (13kV–230kV+), including installation, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting. This role operates within multi-person field crews, supporting outages and storm restoration with a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a 4-year Substation Electrician Apprenticeship or 4+ years journeyman HV substation experience.
• AS degree in Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, repair, and overhaul high-voltage substation equipment (transformers, breakers, switches).
• Perform oil sampling and dielectric fluid filtering on major station apparatus.
• Maintain and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor-operated mechanisms for breakers and switches.
• Execute high/low-voltage switching procedures under dispatch, with proper LOTO, grounding, and safety protocols.
• Lead safety tailgates, JHA, and pre-job briefs; respond to outages and assist in storm restoration.
• Operate test equipment for tests such as Doble PF tests, TTR, insulation resistance, and SFRA.
• Inspect and maintain station auxiliary systems (battery banks, DC panels, standby generators).
• Troubleshoot AC/DC control circuits and station lighting.
