Job summary

PG&E seeks a Relay Protection Electrical Technician to calibrate, install, maintain, and operate protective relay systems across substations and generation/transmission assets. You will work near energized equipment, perform testing, and ensure NERC-compliant operations in challenging outdoor environments.

The role requires 3+ years in relay testing or related training, a valid CA driver's license, and willingness to work extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and have HS diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain on hire date.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift 100 pounds.
• 3+ years testing protective relay equipment or relevant training.
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Complete docs and test reports to meet regulatory requirements.
• Perform electrical power switching and testing of relays.
• Configure remote control/SCADA/EMS systems and test.
• Plan work and obtain clearances for control center operations.
• Test and commission switchgear and network relays.
• Direct apprentices and possibly Electricians on site.
• Handle programming, calibration, and maintenance of relay and control systems.
• Maintain engineering drawings and field revisions.
