Job summary

PG&E is seeking a Relay Protection Electrical Technician to calibrate, install, maintain, and operate protective relays and related equipment ensuring compliant, reliable power delivery. You will work near energized equipment outdoors, travel as needed, and lift heavy components with PPE provided.

The role is on-site within PG&E's Electric Operations, with wage rates aligned to local collective bargaining agreements and multiple factors including skills, education, and experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License or ability to obtain on first day of hire.
• Three years of experience testing protective relay equipment in a power station or high voltage substation, or equivalent training/education.

Responsibilities

• Complete documentation and test reports to meet regulatory compliance.
• Perform electrical power switching and testing; configure remote control and data acquisition systems (SCADA/EMS).
• Plan and schedule work; submit clearance applications to Operations Control Center.
• Test and commission switchgear and relays; supervise apprentices or electricians.
• Perform programming, installation, calibration and troubleshooting of protective relays and control systems.
