Job summary

Pacific Gas and Electric Company is seeking a Relay Protection Electrical Technician for our San Carlos site. The role supports the Substation Maintenance and Construction Team, focusing on protective relays, SCADA, EMS, and associated equipment within high voltage substations.

The position requires working near energized equipment outdoors, extended hours, safety gear, and potential travel to new headquarter locations. Includes union representation and CBAs.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older with a HS diploma or GED.
• Valid California driver's license required on day of hire.
• 3 years of experience testing protective relay equipment.
• High voltage electrical experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Completes documentation and test reports to meet regulatory requirements.
• Performs electrical power switching and related tests.
• Tests, troubleshoots, and configures SCADA/EMS systems.
• Plans work, submits clearances, and coordinates with control centers.
• Tests and commissions switchgear and protection relays.
• Directs apprentices and may supervise electricians.
• Performs protective relay programming, calibration, and maintenance.
• Maintains engineering drawings and field revisions.
• Handles lifting of tools/equipment up to 100 pounds in various terrains.
• Operates company vehicle and ensures safety compliance.
