Job summary

Arup in Houston seeks a High Voltage Electrical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. You’ll assist in designing and simulating electrical power systems, including solar, wind, and battery storage, while learning from experienced staff.

You’ll perform studies, support substation design, and contribute to project documentation in a collaborative setting. The role emphasizes growth, practical engineering tasks, and staying up-to-date with industry standards.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with focus on Power Systems.
• Familiarity with PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, SKM or similar tools is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
• Strong organizational and communication skills for team-based work.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, analysis, and simulation of electrical power systems, including renewables.
• Perform power system studies: short circuit, cable ampacity, arc flash, load flow, energy yield.
• Support design of solar facilities, substations, and BESS under senior staff guidance.
• Conduct grounding, short circuit, cable ampacity, load flow, ARC flash, and voltage drop calculations.
• Learn transmission and distribution line design and software like PLS-CAD.
• Document and organize project data and results; stay updated on industry standards.
