Job summary

Arup is seeking a Graduate High Voltage Electrical Engineer in Houston to assist in the design, analysis, and simulation of electrical power systems, including solar, wind, and energy storage projects.

You will contribute to the design of solar facilities, substations, and BESS under senior guidance, perform essential power system studies, and develop grounding and short-circuit calculations. The role emphasizes learning and professional growth within Arup's global energy practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with focus on Power Systems.
• Familiarity with PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, SKM or similar is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD a plus.
• Ability to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for teamwork.
• Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels.
• Analytical mindset and/or strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, analysis, and simulation of electrical power systems, including renewable energy sources (solar, wind, battery storage).
• Perform power system studies like short circuit, cable ampacity, Arc flash, Load flow and Energy yield.
• Design solar facilities, substations and BESS under senior staff guidance.
• Conduct grounding, short-circuit, cable ampacity, load flow, ARC flash and voltage drop calculations.
• Learn and contribute to Solar and substation design aspects such as DC/AC cable sizing and layout.
• Learn transmission and distribution line design with tools like PLS-CAD.
• Assist with documentation and organization of project data and results.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory standards.
