Job summary

MatX Inc. seeks a hands-on Lab Manager to oversee daily operations, equipment, and infrastructure for a high-speed test lab. You will solder, rework, manage probes and fixtures, and support remote testing for engineers working on high-speed interconnects and optical qualification.

The role covers calibration, procurement, and inventory management, with a focus on clean lab organization and safety. Mountain View based, on-site with occasional remote support and cross-timezone coordination.

Qualifications

• Associate’s/Bachelor’s in Electronics Technology or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years in an electronics test lab, hardware prototyping lab, or similar setting.
• IPC-A-610 Class 2 (Class 3 preferred); J-STD-001 soldering cert a plus.
• Expert hand soldering/Rework and BGA reballing/inspection.
• Proficient with bench instruments (oscilloscopes, power supplies, VNAs).
• Optical fiber handling incl. connector inspection/cleaning and polarity verification.
• Experience with procurement tools (e.g., SAP, Coupa) and asset tracking.
• Knowledge of ESD and safety standards; strong multitasking and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on hardware support: soldering/rework on fine-pitch SMTs (0201, QFN, BGA), ECOs on prototypes, failure analysis.
• Maintain lab equipment: calibration kits, reference cables, calibration schedules, service coordination.
• Remote test support: configure instruments, validate automation scripts, assist remote engineers onsite.
• Logistics and inventory: source/procure lab gear, manage POs, RMAs, real-time asset database.
