Job summary

Anthropic Limited in San Francisco seeks a hands-on hardware lab manager to own and scale our Bay Area labs, from receiving to rack-and-stack.

You will manage provisioning, power, cabling, and inventory, build playbooks, and coordinate with partner teams and contractors to keep labs ready for projects.

This role requires independence, meticulous attention to safety, and the ability to translate needs into scalable lab operations.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience running a hardware, systems, or datacenter lab or similar environment.
• Experience with server hardware management planes (BMC/IPMI/Redfish).
• Ability to take a bare machine to a usable state (PXE, OS install, network).
• Experience coordinating with vendors, contractors, and freight.

Responsibilities

• Run the physical lab across sites: receiving, staging, rack-and-stack, cabling, power, cooling, layout.
• Bring up new server/accelerator platforms from crate to SSH: firmware, BIOS, out-of-band, OS, network.
• Own lab hardware procurement and inventory; chase quotes and lead times.
• Manage end-to-end RMA processes for lab hardware and vendor escalations.
• Build and document playbooks and lightweight tooling for remote lab use.
• Oversee on-site smarthands and contractors: scope, dispatch, quality validation.
