Newton Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Coach for High School Wrestling to instruct athletes in fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning while fostering moral values, sportsmanship, and community service.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, CPR certification, and prior coaching success, with duties spanning program organization, game planning, scouting, and student advancement support.

Qualifications

• CPR certification is required.
• Previous successful coaching experience is required.
• Ability to organize and supervise all levels of a sport program.

• Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Complies with school and MIAA policies and regulations.
• Complies with school and Conference/League policies and regulations.
• Works cooperatively with the school staff.
• Relates positively to parents and other community representatives.
• Completes required records and reports with promptness and accuracy.
• Assumes responsibility for care of equipment and facilities.
• Assumes responsibility for a safe environment for student athletes.
• Models positive behaviors, especially with regard to sportsmanship and the alcohol, tobacco and drug rules.
• Delegates staff assignments to assistant coaches.
• Develops and organizes practice program.
• Evaluates assistant coaches and playing personnel.
• Plans and develops game responsibilities.
• Conducts and analyzes scouting reports.
• Assists student athletes in college advancement.
• Maintains and inventories all equipment and supplies.
• Acts as liaison person in relating the athletic program to the staff, administration, general public, and local news media.
• Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed.
