Dallas Independent School District seeks a SPED Self-Contained Teacher Assistant for grades 9-12 at Sunset High School. You will assist teachers with instructional materials, manage a structured classroom, and support students with disabilities, including physical needs and behavior management.

The role involves supervising students, preparing reports, and coordinating with substitutes while maintaining confidentiality and participating in staff development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) plus one of: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification.
• Training program for teacher assistants or 6 months of knowledge/experience preferred.
• General knowledge of child growth, development and behavior.
• Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Initiative and ability to follow instructions.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Flexibility to adapt to changes in the profession.
• Willingness to stay current with developments in the field.

Responsabilités

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare the classroom according to student needs.
• Assist with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist teachers with administrative records and required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transfers and positioning.
• Assist with personal care and feeding needs as required.
• Assist with classroom curriculum and activities.
• Help manage student behavior and intervene in crisis situations as needed.
• Support individualized and small-group motor skills development.
• Supervise students throughout the school day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Keep teachers informed of students' special needs or problems.
• Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development.
