Job Description

Special Education High focuses on K12-powered virtual high schools with personalized learning programs, engaging courses, compassionate teachers, and a vibrant school community. Responsible for program structure and resources to maximize the special education experience for both students and learning coaches. Responsible for relationship building with families, students, and learning coaches to ensure that all students are progressing successfully through the program. Bachelor’s degree, 0-1 year of related professional experience.

Certificates and Licenses

Appropriate current Oklahoma special education teaching license OR proof of application.

Residency Requirement
  • Oklahoma residents required.
Position Overview

The High School special education teacher is a highly qualified, state-certified educator responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. They provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. They monitor student progress through K12’s learning management system and work closely with students and parents/Learning Coaches to support student achievement. Typically working from home, they must occasionally travel for school functions such as state testing.

Position Details

This is a full-time remote position, requiring the ability to work independently for 40+ hours per week, maintaining a professional home office, typically during standard work hours. Occasional travel is required for professional development and student testing.

Essential Functions
  1. Instructional: Taking ownership of students’ progress, preparing for standardized tests, conducting live synchronous teaching (minimum 15 hours/week), supporting objectives asynchronously, collaborating with teams, and maintaining grades.
  2. Relationship Building: Establishing rapport with families, supporting learning coaches, troubleshooting technical issues, and working collaboratively to ensure student progress.
  3. Other Functions: Organizing activities, supporting travel for testing and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Ability to interpret and use student data for instruction.
  • Receptive to coaching and change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of content standards and curriculum alignment.
  • Experience in virtual teaching environments and supporting both children and adults with technology.
  • Relevant teaching experience, certification, and ongoing professional development.
