Job Description

Special Education High focuses on K12-powered virtual high schools with personalized learning programs, engaging courses, compassionate teachers, and a vibrant school community. Responsible for program structure and resources to maximize the special education experience for both students and learning coaches. Responsible for relationship building with families, students, and learning coaches to ensure that all students are progressing successfully through the program. Bachelor’s degree, 0-1 year of related professional experience.

Required Certificates and Licenses: Missouri Special Education Teaching Certification Required

Residency Requirements: Must reside in Missouri

This position is remote and strongly prefers candidates that reside in Missouri.

The Special Education Teacher is a state certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher provides instruction, support, and guidance, manages the learning process, and focuses on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s IEP. The role involves working actively with students and parents to advance learning and ensuring compliance with necessary documentation.

This is a full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office during work hours is required.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure all special education and related services are provided as per IEPs by communicating with parents and related service staff.
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other documentation.
  • Lead collaborative IEP meetings.
  • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Make modifications and accommodations to lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education environment.
  • Monitor student progress through data collection and work samples.
  • Document all contacts with parents and interventions with students.
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment.
  • Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
  • Personalize learning for all students and maintain high expectations.
  • Maintain grade books, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with instructional issues and troubleshooting.
  • Travel up to 20% for face-to-face professional development or student testing.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
Other Required Qualifications
  • Ability to interpret and use student data to inform instruction.
  • Receptive to coaching and feedback.
  • Adaptability to change and new technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with the target age group.
  • Experience supporting technology use for adults and children.
  • Experience teaching online or in traditional settings.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms.
Compensation & Benefits

Salaries are based on education, experience, and other factors. Offers are typically in the lower half of the salary range.
