Residency Requirements: Texas
Salary: $52,000 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus.

Special Education Teacher is the teacher of record for their students and provides instruction, support, and guidance, managing the learning process with a focus on self-contained and ALT students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s IEP. This role is responsible for progress monitoring on goals, service logs, and all compliance documents required for serving self-contained and ALT students.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Collaborate with parents and colleagues to manage course goals, curriculum, and materials that enhance the learning experience;
  • Create compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state-specific required special education documentation;
  • Participate and provide input for collaborative special education meetings such as annual IEP meetings;
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (or professional development);
  • Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students;
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed;
  • Participate in data analysis meetings to monitor student growth;
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress towards IEP goals and objectives;
  • Document all contact with parents, collaborations with general education teachers, and interventions with students;
  • Use provided resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities, such as assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text;
  • Provide special education services to students; support general education teachers and parents with student accommodations to promote the attainment of IEP goals;
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom;
  • Provide personalized learning for all students;
  • Demonstrate belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations;
  • Maintain grade books, ensure student academic integrity, provide input for student placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress;
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests;
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner;
  • Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, as well as basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures;
  • Support in-person student testing.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data, and use it to drive instructional decisions
  • Receptive to receiving coaching regularly from administrators
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time for in-person student testing, professional development, or other school-related travel
  • Ability to clear required background check

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with self-contained and ALT students in the proposed age group
  • Experience supporting adults and children in using technology
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment
  • Experience with online learning platforms

Work Environment:

This is a home-based position with seasonal travel requirements.
