Position Title: High School Music Teacher (Grades 9–12)
Location: R.W. Traip Academy, Kittery, Maine
Reports To: Principal, R.W. Traip Academy
Start Date: 2025–2026 School Year
Certification Required: Maine DOE Certification 614 (PK–12 Music) and CHRC Approval

Position Overview:

The Kittery School District is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated full-time High School Music Teacher to join the team at R.W. Traip Academy beginning in the 2025–2026 school year. The ideal candidate will inspire students through both instrumental and vocal music instruction and foster a lifelong appreciation for music.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in instrumental and vocal music

  • Design engaging lesson plans and units aligned with a proficiency-based learning model

  • Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback

  • Communicate effectively and consistently with students and families

  • Plan and lead rehearsals, performances, and musical activities that showcase student growth and talent

  • Collaborate with other district music educators to co-plan events

  • Integrate music into interdisciplinary learning experiences across the curriculum

  • Support students’ individual growth in vocal and instrumental performance

  • Coordinate and organize school-wide musical events such as concerts, recitals, and assemblies

  • Cultivate a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative classroom and school culture

Qualifications and Attributes:
  • Valid Maine DOE Certification 614 (PK–12 Music) or eligibility to obtain

  • CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) approval

  • Strong passion for music and music education

  • Commitment to fostering student engagement and creativity

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, and the wider school community

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Flexibility and willingness to teach a variety of music courses including band, chorus, and electives

  • Experience working with students with diverse learning styles and needs
