Job description

Under the direction of the Fine Arts Coordinator and the principal, the Music teacher will teach elementary classes as scheduled, coordinate music programs with classroom curricula when appropriate, conduct a multi-age chorus, and participate in relevant music productions. The teacher may also support elementary school chorus and concerts.

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct elementary music classes as scheduled.
2. Provide clear, written weekly lesson plans.
3. Report student progress through report cards and parent communication.
4. Conduct multi-age chorus and musical activities.
5. Lead recorder and choral ensembles.
6. Integrate music curriculum with classroom instruction.
7. Implement the music curriculum effectively.

Qualifications:

• Massachusetts certification in music for elementary and middle school levels.
• Successful teaching experience in elementary music, with knowledge of Orff and Gordon Learning Theory.
• Knowledge of recorder techniques and functional proficiency on piano.
• Experience in integrating music into other disciplines and mainstreaming learning-disabled students.
• Strong communication skills with teachers, parents, and administrators.
• Choral expertise.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment or willingness to develop these skills.
