Job summary

Washtenaw County Health Department seeks a seasoned professional to lead the development, operation, and implementation of historic preservation programs. You will coordinate with multiple partners, leverage funding, and provide expert guidance on HUD Section 106 reviews, heritage tourism, and county projects.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of historic preservation activities and compliance with 36 CFR part 61.
• Understanding of GIS basics such as Storymaps or ability to learn.
• Ability to develop programs, scopes, metrics, reporting, and oversight.
• Knowledge of related laws and regulations governing preservation and heritage tourism.
• Group facilitation and consensus-building skills.
• Research, data analysis and report preparation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Works with the Historic District Commission and partners to encourage historic preservation and heritage tourism in Washtenaw County.
• Receives and coordinates Certificate of Appropriateness applications and related correspondence.
• Communicates with commissioners, schedules meetings, prepares agendas and packets, and takes meeting minutes.
• Develops and implements programs and projects advancing historic preservation and heritage tourism.
• Conducts surveys of historic properties and manages project teams and budgets.
• Researches, writes, and submits grants; manages grants and contracts.
• Prepares Section 106 applications for HUD-funded projects with HUD project managers.
• Maintains records, contracts, and reports related to program activities; prepares correspondence.
• Performs visits to historic districts to document changes and engage stakeholders.
• Assists in hiring and managing interns to support goals.
• May drive county vehicle in performance of work.
