Job summary

Pima County seeks a Cultural Resources & Historic Preservation Manager to lead a nationally recognized program in Southern Arizona. You will guide archaeology, preservation, tribal engagement and environmental planning early in project development, coordinating with diverse partners across a 250,000-acre conservation network.

The role emphasizes regulatory compliance, staff mentorship, and cross-jurisdictional collaboration with tribal, state, and federal agencies.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in history, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or a closely related field.
• Three years of cultural resources management experience with supervisory/managerial duties.
• Meets Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for archaeology or architectural history.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and mentors compliance program staff and evaluates performance to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversees county-wide compliance with NHPA and Arizona Antiquities Act for county and private sector projects.
• Manages compliance databases and GIS mapping systems with accurate records.
• Liaises with tribal governments, agencies, and the Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission.
• Guides projects through regulatory review and advises on integrating historic preservation.
