Job description

Yellow Studio | Cross River, NY | Part-Time, Entry-Level | Weekend availability required

About Yellow Studio

Yellow Studio is a community space and creative hub in Cross River, NY, anchored by an art gallery with rotating exhibitions, artist talks, residencies and workshops, and a supportive, active roster of members. That same community energy carries out beyond our walls, through Beehive, our neighboring retail space, and through member clubs, workshops, and events.

What makes Yellow Studio feel like Yellow Studio is the community around it: the members, artists, and neighbors who come back week after week for what’s on view, who’s showing next, and what’s happening at the studio. We’re a small, close‑knit team, and we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of keeping that community connected.

We’re also in the process of transitioning to nonprofit status, so some roles and responsibilities across the studio may shift a bit as that transition comes together. Flexibility and a willingness to adapt are genuinely important for this role right now.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Gallery & Community Associate to join us and pick up the recurring work of our outgoing associate. It’s an entry‑level, hands‑on role at the heart of the studio: you’ll help our members stay in the loop each week, support our exhibitions from the moment information needs to be collected from the artists to the night the show opens and through the closing. Your detail‑oriented eye will help make sure everything we generate is polished and consistent. Yellow Studio was granted 501(c)(3) non‑profit status very recently. We will need your support in navigating the transition through clear communication and planning.

You’ll report to and work closely with Tina, our director, day‑to‑day, and you’ll also coordinate with our marketing lead on member communications. You’ll often be the one making sure the small things: a date, a link, a label, a font size , are right before something goes out the door or up on the wall. If you’re the kind of person who notices those details, and you love being around art and the people who make it, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
  • Member & Community Communications
    • Build and send our weekly and monthly emails, daily social media, including recurring member‑feature and event posts
    • Collect and edit member news each month, and keep our Member Spotlight program and Master Member List up to date
    • Submitting event listing to regional calendars and publications, weekly listings to the Katonah Chamber of Commerce, sending out monthly club meeting invites
  • Gallery & Exhibition Support
    • Maintain and prepare artwork records for each exhibition: artwork records, labels, price lists, consignment paperwork, and installation photos, etc.
  • Graphics & Production
    • Design/update templates for exhibition and event graphics in Canva for email, web, and Instagram, including our monthly studio calendar, and prepare exhibition title vinyl for the gallery wall
    • Help open and close the gallery each day (including heat/AC and lights), and pitch in on general maintenance of our common spaces: stocking supplies like water, snacks, and restroom essentials
  • Behind the Scenes
    • Build and maintain UTM tracking links, keep our community events spreadsheet current, and help with new member intake and other studio tasks as they come up
What We’re Looking For
  • An entry‑level candidate: no specific years of professional experience required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Exceptional attention to detail: this role involves a lot of proofing, cross‑checking, and consistency work (dates, links, formatting, measurements), and we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys getting the small things right
  • A demonstrated interest in the arts, whether through coursework, a personal practice, gallery or museum experience, volunteering, or something else entirely
  • Warm, clear written communication, since you’ll be writing directly to our members and our public
  • Quick to pick up new apps and platforms (things like Flodesk, Canva, Artwork Archive, Later, Cricut, and Asana); prior experience is a nice‑to‑have, not a requirement
  • The ability to stay on top of recurring weekly and monthly deadlines with independence
  • Weekend availability, which is required, since our hours include Saturdays and Sundays
  • A willingness to pitch in on the day‑to‑day upkeep of the space, including some light physical tasks
Schedule & Compensation

This is a part‑time role at $18-20/hour.

Hours per week: 2 days in person, 5-10 hours remote
