Job summary

Spotsylvania County is seeking a skilled Truck and Heavy Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a range of heavy vehicles and equipment. The role requires performing welding, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and cost-conscious decision-making to minimize downtime.

Candidates must have a technical mechanic background, a valid VA driver's license, and ideally a CDL Class A within 18 months. ASE and OSHA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience on heavy equipment and trucks, or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver’s License; CDL Class A within 18 months.
• ASE Certifications for Medium/Heavy Vehicles preferred; OSHA 10 within one week of hire; First Aid/CPR certification.
• Vocational/Technical degree with emphasis in mechanics, automotive maintenance, welding, and heavy equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain preventive maintenance and repair of vehicles and heavy equipment to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine repair feasibility and costs.
• Repair, maintain, and test engine components and vehicle systems.
• Perform routine servicing and preventive maintenance tasks.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and service calls as needed.
• Maintain inventory of parts and keep repair records and logs.
• Communicate with supervisors, drivers, vendors to coordinate work.
