The Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a skilled mechanic to diagnose, repair, inspect and maintain a wide range of diesel and gasoline trucks and construction equipment. You will work across varied locations and perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic tests using advanced electronic systems.

You must read manuals, maintain accurate records, obtain required licenses (CDL, DOT medical, and Virginia State Inspection) within specified timeframes, and operate

Qualifications

• Independently perform major repairs and maintenance on diesel and gasoline trucks.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and comply with policies.
• Obtain Virginia State Inspection License within 12 months.
• Operate various types of light, medium, heavy-duty trucks safely.
• Perform heavy manual labor.
• Read and comprehend repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices.
• Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication operations.
• Knowledge of diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automotive, construction equipment.
• Safety shoes required.
• Proficient with computers, hand and power tools and advanced diagnostic equipment.

Responsabilités

• Diagnose and repair vehicle, equipment or asset failures; recommend outsourcing for major repairs when needed.
• Prepare equipment for emergency operations; perform on-the-road repairs to reduce downtime.
• Prepare and close-out work orders and maintain documentation in the system; process time and leave entries.
• Perform repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical and computer systems, and air brakes.
• Perform preventive maintenance per PM schedule and determine outsourcing when needed.
• Perform Virginia State inspections under program guidelines.
• Design, fabricate, modify, and weld components to repair or replace parts.
