Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in San Saba, TX is seeking an Equipment Operator I to operate heavy equipment and contribute to roadway maintenance and construction projects. You will handle trucks, graders, excavators, and paving machines while adhering to safety standards and procedures.

The role includes PMI checks, daily reporting, and on-the-job training opportunities as part of a dedicated team focused on reliable transportation infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Education: No formal education required.
• Experience: 1 year operating maintenance/construction equipment.
• Licenses: Valid Texas Class A CDL required for equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing support at accident sites and aid stranded motorists as needed.
• Assist with traffic control by placing and gathering cones and signs.
• Complete reports: timekeeping, PMI checklist, inventory, and progress records.
• Operate light equipment (front-end loader, street sweeper, mower) and complex heavy equipment.
• Perform PMI inspections and routine servicing; move tools and tires as needed.
• Drive tractor-trailer haul trucks for relocation of equipment per regulations.
• Potential to lead a work crew to ensure project specs are met.
• May train others in equipment operation and safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
