Job summary

TxDOT in Greenville, TX is seeking an Equipment Operator I or II to perform complex transportation maintenance using a range of heavy equipment. You will drive state vehicles, operate earth-moving and paving machinery, conduct PMI inspections, and assist in emergency responses such as floods, hurricanes, or accidents.

This full-time position requires a valid driver's license and (for Texas) a CDL for equipment operation, a pre-employment physical, and passing a drug test.

Qualifications

• No formal education required.
• Equipment Operator I: 1 year experience in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation.
• Equipment Operator II: 2 year experience in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Drives a state vehicle to assist in sanding or cleaning bridges and roads, posting warning signs, helping the public and performing other work as directed during emergency situations.
• Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
• Assists with traffic control by placing cones and barricades and flagging traffic.
• Operates various heavy equipment including tractor-trailer haul trucks, motor graders, excavators, bulldozers, cranes, and paving machines.
• Performs PMI inspections, routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment.
• Maintains required reports and records such as time-keeping and inventory.
